Remember the scenario from my last blog? It went like this: "Mooooommmmmy, I'm scared! I need you to turn the light on," begs the littlest one, doing the "I gotta pee" dance.
"Mom, you promised you'd read to me when we got home," says the older one, giving you the "What about me?" look.
Meanwhile, everybody's so hungry, tummies are growling, groceries need to be put away, and, oh, yes, you have to go to the bathroom.
Isn't this the type of situation we face every day as parents? So how in the world do you decide what to do first when you are faced with multiple needs and demands like this? The next tip will actually help you - in any given moment - make a loving choice and feel good about it.
TIP #3: WHAT WOULD LOVE DO NOW?
This tool is very simple yet very powerful. It consists of just this: When you feel pulled in many directions, take a deep breath and ask yourself "What would Love do right now?" Just asking yourself this question immediately lines up the needs and demands into an appropriate priority order. It's amazing!
Let's look at our example. In that moment, the answer you will get may vary depending on factors such as how full your bladder is, but will probably sound something like this:
"Turn on the light for the little one, and I can pee next. Tell older one I will read to him for 20 minutes after dinner. Redirect him to dinner by asking whether he'd prefer hot dogs or pasta."
OR
"Ask the older one to turn light on for little one while I race to the bathroom! Get appetizers on table while dinner is being prepped. Read to him while dinner is cooking and appetizers are eaten."
Asking what Love would do now essentially reconnects you with the source of love. Whether you think of the source as being centered within you, your own higher self, your heart, or coming from a loving guide greater than yourself, such as God, Goddess, angels, this tool works beautifully. Personally, I believe that the spirit of God, the spirit of Love, is both within us and around us. When we are acting from that place, we are God's hands here on earth.
Whatever your spiritual philosophy, you will find that asking, "What would Love do now?" helps you to respond to any situation with love. You choose conscious loving action, instead of inaction or overreaction. And this tool is very balancing as it ensures that everyone's needs get met. Including yours.
